...make that four!

Hey followers, lots of crazy news!

We safely arrived in Golfito, Costa Rica from El Salvador last Friday the 21st which is pretty much old news. Our old insurance company which, incredibly, offered to insure us for the entire trip down to New Zealand last February, was bought out this month and the new company will not cover ocean crossings without crew or captain with trans-oceanic experience and will not cover our island-hoppings either...so that's cool. Additionally, the old policy expired last week so we are shopping for a new policy. Thank goodness for Skype and free 1-800 number calls!

For various reasons, Koelby, Jessica, Keaton & Ian are all sadly leaving the Trade Winds in Costa Rica. To eliminate 2300 miles and to finally get to the South Pacific, the remaining ones of us are going to sail west and tackle the 3200 miles to THE MARQUESAS! We were originally planning on going south to Ecuador and Peru before heading Southwest to Easter Island and then Northwest to the Pitcarins and finally the Marquesas. Because of crew considerations, country immigration and customs fees, and the extra distance we are going to bite the proverbial bullet, and sail west.
The Marquesas Islands and some others that we plan on visiting
Before we leave we are looking for additional crew members who are willing and able to drop everything they are doing, fly to Costa Rica, and sail with us for 5 months. If you fit this description, or know someone who does, please have them contact us. If you can't make it for the crossing, but would like to sail the South Pacific, we would have room for extra stowaways in the Islands, too!

While we wait for crew and insurance to play out to completion, we will fill our days gravity filling our NZ spec propane tanks from Central American propane tanks and a rig like below. We might even use ice to achieve fuller tanks!

And then there were eight...

JT and I have been anxiously waiting five months to join the crew and guess what?!?! We are FINALLY here, in El Salvador, sweating, soaking up the sun and enjoying life as sailors. The first 26 hours have been fabulous. We already tried the traditional Salvadorian dish, Popusas, tasted the local beer and swam in the Pacific. And that's about it. Fine by us. Tomorrow we will be hitting up the capital, San Salvador, to get a look inside the culture and lifestyle. JT says, "yeah, we're doing it!"
 A wonderful welcoming sunset!

Antigua/Tom & Jenna

Here are a few pictures of some of the 24 church ruins Tom and I saw in Antigua!

Tikal: a little late but still impressive!

Tom and I went to Tikal after temporarily parting ways with Koelby and Jessica in Lanquín, and it was beautiful! Some of the most impressive ruins in the world, and some cool critters to boot! These are just a few of the pictures we took!
